First Steps, Kentucky’s early intervention system, offers comprehensive services through a variety of community agencies to help children with developmental delays or conditions likely to cause delays. The program serves children from birth to 3 years old.
The Lincoln Trail District Health Department administers First Steps in its six-county area of Hardin, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington counties as well as Grayson and Breckinridge counties.
Services are provided in the home, a child development center or a clinical setting, depending on a child’s needs and service availability. First Steps therapists work with families to determine the appropriate services and the best way to deliver those services.
We know early intervention is critical to improving a child’s abilities and reducing the need for costly special programs later in life. If you think your child would benefit from early intervention services, call the Lincoln Trail District Health Department.
