At the Lincoln Trail District Health Department, we want all parents to have healthy, safe, nurturing child care options and we want all care providers to have the knowledge and skills they need to ensure children get a healthy start.
The Child Care Health Consultation program supports that very goal as our consultants promote safe, healthy, nurturing environments needed for optimal child development.
As a free resource to out-of-home child care providers of children from birth to 5 years old, Child Care Health Consultants provide consultation and training by phone, email and on-site visits on health, safety, nutrition and behavioral and social-economic concerns.
These licensed health professionals do not serve a regulatory function. Instead, their knowledge of regulations and the everyday operations of child care facilities enables them to be a resource and supporter of child care providers and ultimately the children and families they serve. CCHCs provide accurate and up-to-date health and safety information, increase awareness of issues pertaining to babies and young children and make recommendations to improve the quality of Kentucky’s child care. CCHCs also assist in interpreting standards, regulations and accreditation requirements.
CCHCs consult with, train and educate child care providers, their staff and parents to improve Health, Safety, Nutrition, and Behavioral-Social/Emotional concerns. As credentialed trainers, CCHCs are able to educate and provide free training sessions that count toward clock hour credits required for Licensing.
Child Care Health Consultants also collaborate with licensing staff and policy makers to improve resources, regulations and policies that promote healthy and safe child care.
CCHCs are based in local health departments and actively participate in community activities to ensure collaboration and coordination on issues impacting the quality of Child Care.
As licensed health professionals familiar with local community resources, our consultants stand ready to assist children and their families fill unmet or suspected needs by referring them to the appropriate agency for assistance or evaluation.
Child Care Health Consultation is available through the Lincoln Trail District Health Department to the six counties in the Lincoln Trail district – Hardin, LaRue, Meade, Marion, Nelson and Washington counties – as well as Bullitt County.
